The purchase or refinancing of a home is the largest financial transaction most of us will ever make. It certainly has been for Loraine and I. As stressed-out homebuyers we had a file cabinet full of questions, many of them in the middle of the night. As stressed out borrowers during a refinancing episode we had that same cabinet full of questions. And we wanted answers. In our experiences, we had to wait. Sometimes as long as a week. I resolved that when I got into the lending business I would never make my clients wait for an answer.

During our last real estate purchase we were often asked by our loan officer to mail time sensitive documents to his office nearby. To speed the process along I would drive the requested information to his office, then call him later in the day. A few days later I would call him again. Haven't looked at it, was his response one too many times. I again resolved that when I got into the lending business I would give my clients some personal service and make a drive to their house when needed.

People like to be treated fairly and they like to know what is going on. I had to fight the lender when we purchased this house we currently live in over the outrageous costs associated with the loan. I finally won, and I let the guy make a fair living. That experience left me with another resolution to follow through with. I resolved that when I got into the lending business I would be fair to my clients from the start. So I was, and now I trust the banks will be!
